PETALING JAYA:
Five Malaysian volunteers with the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission who did not complete the journey arrived home safely yesterday.

They were accompanied by a volunteer from Brunei.

Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) director-general Sani Araby Abdul Alim said the volunteers will continue their duties with SNCC, and coordinate information on the GSF mission.

“Two more Malaysians are in Amman, Jordan, to aid the legal team in managing the detainee situation.

“SNCC met the families of GSF volunteers for nearly four hours yesterday to deliver a message from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

“The prime minister says he will lead efforts to free the detainees involved,” Berita Harian reported him as saying.

The five volunteers are Abdul Rahim Azhari, Khairin Afiq Subkhi, Ahmad Safuan Ujar, Tuan Asri Tuan Hussein and Nur Ilham Fansuri Zainal Rashid.

Accompanying them was Brunei’s Rezahmaisalamah Yusof.

The two Malaysians in Amman are Hidayat Abdullah and Nik Aziz Nik Mohammad.

Yesterday, SNCC said it had lost contact with 17 out of 23 Malaysians on the convoy after Israeli forces boarded several GSF ships in the Mediterranean Sea.

At least 15 Malaysian activists, including singer Zizi Kirana, are confirmed to have been arrested.

Anwar has condemned Israel’s interception of the GSF, which had been carrying unarmed civilians and humanitarian aid bound for Gaza.

He has vowed that Malaysia will pursue “all legitimate and lawful means” to hold Israel accountable, particularly in cases involving Malaysian citizens.

Dir Kheizwan Kamaruddin, one of the lawyers stationed in Amman, said Israel must release the Malaysian volunteers detained at the Ketziot Camp within 72 hours, as they have signed a request for immediate departure.

Bernama quoted him as saying that the Malaysians signed the document during legal briefings conducted at the Centre for Human Rights Research and Advocacy in Tunisia and Italy.

Dir Kheizwan is among five lawyers from the centre working to ensure that all Malaysians detained by the Israeli regime receive transparent and fair legal protection. The other lawyers are Fahmi Abd Moin, Azril Amin, Ahmad Nazrin Abu Bakar and Luqman Mazlan.
