PETALING JAYA:
Ultras Malaya football supporters marched to the US Embassy on Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur, tonight, in solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) after Israeli forces intercepted its vessels in the Mediterranean Sea.

According to Berita Harian, the crowd of nearly 500 were seen chanting slogans and singing songs of protest while lighting flares.

The protesters gathered at the Ampang Park LRT station at about 9pm before making their way to the embassy’s main entrance.

The gathering caused heavy traffic congestion in both directions towards Sungai Besi and Jalan Pahang.

Police maintained a strong presence at the scene to avert possible incidents.

Police had arrested two men after a scuffle broke out during a separate pro-Palestine protest outside the US embassy this afternoon.

City police chief Fadil Marsus said the pair, aged 23 and 32, were arrested for obstructing policemen in discharging their duties.

He said there were about 50 protesters around noon and that the situation escalated after some participants started blocking traffic flow on Jalan Tun Razak. This led to a scuffle with a policeman, who was elbowed in the face and suffered minor injuries.

A group of NGOs slammed the cops over their alleged misconduct in handling the demonstration, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of the two protesters who were arrested.
