PETALING JAYA:
A team of Malaysian lawyers has arrived in Amman, Jordan, to negotiate the release of local volunteers detained by Israeli forces while participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) to Gaza.

Fahmi Abd Moin said he and four other lawyers from the Centre for Human Rights Research and Advocacy landed in Jordan at 1pm local time yesterday.

“I am here with lawyers Azril Amin, Dir Kheizwan Kamaruddin, Luqman Mazlan and Ahmad Nazri Abu Bakar. We are preparing an official statement,” he was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.

The Sumud Nusantara Command Centre said it lost contact with 17 of the 23 Malaysians in the convoy after Israeli forces boarded several GSF ships in the Mediterranean Sea.

At least 12 Malaysians, including singer Zizi Kirana, have been arrested. The status of the others remains unknown.

Meanwhile, 30 other GSF ships were still sailing towards Gaza early this morning, despite repeated Israeli naval interception attempts.

A GSF update on Telegram at 8.45am Malaysian time said the flotilla was only 46 nautical miles from the Gaza coast and still moving forward despite aggressive Israeli naval actions.

It said the actions of the Israeli military would not weaken its resolve to break the blockade and open a humanitarian corridor.
