PETALING JAYA:
Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) has voiced disappointment with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) over a “technical error” in the documents submission process that led to the suspension of three of the club’s mixed-heritage players.

In a statement, JDT CEO Luis Garcia called for the matter to be resolved and for the players to be able to represent the football club as soon as possible.

The suspended JDT players are Joao Vitor Brandao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal Iraurgui and Hector Alejandro Hevel Serrano.

Yesterday, administrators of the Malaysian Football League said the trio would be barred from appearing in the Malaysia League.

On Sept 26, FIFA’s disciplinary committee fined FAM 350,000 Swiss francs (RM1.9 million), while a total of seven players were each fined 2,000 Swiss francs (RM11,000) in addition to their 12-month suspension.

FIFA said FAM and the seven players were sanctioned for breaching Article 22 of its disciplinary code, which relates to forgery and falsification.

The other four players involved are Gabriel Felipe Arrocha, Facundo Tomas Garces, Rodrigo Julian Holgado, and Imanol Javier Machuca.

On Sunday, FAM cited a “technical error” in the documents submitted to field the players in an Asian Cup qualifier. The error had been made by a FAM staff member, it said.

FAM said it took the matter seriously and emphasised that the mixed-heritage players involved were indeed Malaysian.
