PETALING JAYA:
A young man facing charges of murdering his pregnant girlfriend and setting the body on fire in Sabak Bernam two years ago maintained his guilty plea at the Klang High Court today, after previously pleading not guilty.

Counsel Nor Tamrin informed the court today of his client’s intention, saying he had been notified of Fakrul Aiman Sajali’s wish.

“I was contacted by my client by phone yesterday. I asked him to reconsider the matter.

“After he was advised again this morning, he confirmed that he still wished to change his plea to guilty,” Bernama reported him as saying outside the courtroom.

Nor applied for a mention date to have the charges read to Fakrul again. Senior assistant registrar Luqman Abdul Haris fixed the case for remention on Oct 10.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Ashiqin Zulkifli appeared for the prosecution.

On Sept 8, Justice Norliza Othman had fixed today to ascertain the status of the representation filed by Fakrul, 22, to plead guilty. This was to enable the prosecution to thoroughly consider the matter and explore the possibility of amending the charge to a different section of the law.

Earlier, the same court had set the trial to commence on Feb 23,  followed by further hearing on Feb 27, March 9 to 13 and March 30 to April 3, 2026.

On May 15, the court granted an application by Fakrul, accused of murdering Nur Anisah Abdul Wahab, 21, who was pregnant at the time, to be referred to a psychiatric specialist for a mental examination.

Fakrul was charged on June 1 last year with the murder of Nur Anisah at Jalan Sungai Limau, Sungai Besar, between 8.30pm on May 22 and 8am on May 23, 2023.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty, or 30 to 40 years’ imprisonment, upon conviction.

It was previously reported that Nur Anisah was stabbed, slashed and torched in an oil palm plantation.
