PETALING JAYA:
An 18-year-old boy was sentenced by the Seremban sessions court today to be placed at a Henry Gurney School until he turns 21 for raping an underage girl last year.

Harian Metro reported that the boy pleaded guilty to the offence under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 20 years’ imprisonment or whipping, during proceedings for the social report and sentencing.

The boy raped the 13-year-old girl at around 9.35am on Aug 19 in a hotel in Bukit Rasah, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

According to the facts of the case, the two became acquainted via social media, and had met at a hotel to have sex five times, the victim having taken a bus from Kedah to Negeri Sembilan for their meetings.

The boy, who was unrepresented, requested community service or placement at a Henry Gurney School.

His cousin, who attended the proceedings, informed the court that the boy’s parents in Johor were unable to be present due to financial constraints and an inability to pay the surety.

Deputy public prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni requested a commensurate sentence as a lesson, in view of the victim being a minor.

The same court also sentenced a man who was sentenced to jail last month for a drug-related offence to another six years and one stroke of the rotan for raping a teenage girl and keeping videos of the victim.

Judge Surita Budin imposed the sentence after Khairul Azhar Yusof, 33, pleaded guilty to the charges, and ordered that he undergo counselling and police monitoring for a year after his release.

Khairul had been charged with raping a 17-year-old girl on May 28 at around 12.30pm at a hotel in Bahau, Jempol.

He was also found in possession of two sexual videos of the victim in his mobile phone on July 31, at around 9.30pm at the Jempol police headquarters’ criminal investigation division, an offence under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

According to the facts, Khairul raped his girlfriend at a hotel in Bahau after giving her a drink that made her sleepy and dazed.

He was unrepresented but requested a sentence concurrent with his five-year sentence for drug trafficking, which began on Aug 1.

The court set his six-year sentence for rape, and three-year sentence for the second charge, to run concurrently from the date of his conviction today.
