Deputy housing and local government minister Aiman Athirah Sabu said 2,766 houses had been completed by Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) while another 1,310 units were under construction as of Aug 31.
In addition, 1,374 more houses are in the process of being handed over to contractors, Bernama reported her as saying.
“The subsidy provided is RM20,000, while the remaining RM55,000 is to be borne by the applicants themselves through interest-free loans with SPNB,” she said after a ceremony to hand over the keys to new homeowners in Kerteh, Terengganu, today.
Aiman said Kelantan recorded the highest number of applications for homes under the Rumah Mesra Rakyat programme, with more than 11,000 units completed, followed by Terengganu with 10,200 units.
She said the ministry had received 183,522 applications for the programme from 2002 to August this year.
“The applicants must be in the low-income group, earning RM5,000 and below. They must not own any house or live in a dilapidated house with land to build their own home,” she said.
