“All of the accusations against me are baseless,” he said, referring to several assertions put to him by deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Low Chin How.
Re-examined by defence counsel M Athimulan at the sessions court, the former Felcra non-executive chairman denied setting the fee payable to his wife, Zizie Izette Abdul Samad, at RM3.5 million.
Low had also suggested that Norhaili Mokhtar, an agent for Public Mutual Bhd, had sought a reduction of the fee.
Athimulan: The DPP put it to you that you agreed for the amount to be reduced to RM2.8 million, and instructed your wife to handle its receipt, and you answered that you disagree. Why?
Bung: I say under oath that (the DPP’s assertions) are not true. The two witnesses (Norhaili and her colleague Madhi Hamid) never testified that money was to be given to my wife. All of these are mere fabrications by the DPP.
Bung also reiterated that he had no knowledge of what discussions might have taken place between his wife and the agents, saying his testimony had consistently shown that he was not involved in any negotiations.
He asked that the court refer to Norhaili and Madhi’s testimonies to ascertain if there had been any discussions involving him about the introduction fee, and whether he had asked for RM3.5 million, RM3 million, or RM2.8 million from them.
“None of these claims is supported with facts,” he said.
Bung, 65, faces two charges of receiving bribes of RM2.2 million and RM262,500 as an inducement to obtain Felcra’s approval to invest RM150 million in Public Mutual unit trusts.
He was alleged to have accepted bribes from Madhi through Zizie at the Taman Melawati Public Bank branch between 12.30pm and 5pm on June 12, 2015.
He faces a separate charge of receiving RM337,500 from Norhaili under Zizie’s name at the same bank on June 19, 2015.
Zizie faces three charges of abetting Bung in the commission of the alleged offences.
The hearing before judge Rosli Ahmad continues on Nov 27.
