PETALING JAYA:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has hinted at “good news” for Sabah in the 2026 budget, set to be tabled on Oct 10.

Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said although he is not from Sabah, the state will receive the highest allocation in Malaysia’s history, Harian Metro reported.

“The national budget, God willing, I will announce for Malaysia. For Sabah, there will be a good announcement on Oct 10,” he was quoted as saying at a PKR event in Kampung Kobuni, Kota Kinabalu, today.

Under the 2025 budget, Sabah and Sarawak received RM6.7 billion and RM5.9 billion in development funds, respectively, up from RM6.6 billion and RM5.8 billion previously.

The interim special grants for both states were doubled to RM600 million each in 2025 from RM300 million previously.

The government had also increased allocations for the two Borneo states under the 2024 budget by raising the special grants in 2024 from RM16 million for Sarawak and RM125.6 million for Sabah.
