
Chew Tiong Han, 46, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before magistrate Khairunnisak Hassni, Kosmo reported.
He is accused of driving in a manner dangerous to the public at about 6.30pm on Sept 23.
The charge, framed under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, carries a maximum five years’ jail, a fine of up to RM15,000, an endorsement on the offender’s driving licence and disqualification from driving for at least five years.
The court fixed bail at RM7,000 with one surety and set Nov 18 for mention of the case.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurbatrisyia Razib led the prosecution, while Chew was represented by Gurusharonjit Kaur.
Police arrested the driver after a TikTok video of the incident went viral.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad said traffic police confirmed the driver had run the red light and almost hit a pedestrian at a zebra crossing.
