PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today confirmed the arrest of a deputy public prosecutor who had reported for duty at the anti-graft agency just last week.

In a statement, the commission said the officer, who is understood to be male, was arrested by the police at his home yesterday.

“A search at the scene uncovered substances believed to be drugs,” it said.

MACC said it had handed the matter over to the police for further investigation and pledged its full cooperation.

“The commission stresses that it will not compromise on misconduct, breaches of the law, or criminal acts by any of its officers or staff, and remains firmly committed to upholding integrity and good governance within the organisation,” it added.

Bukit Aman narcotics criminal investigation department director Hussein Omar Khan meanwhile told Bernama that the case was being investigated under Section 12(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The deputy public prosecutor has been remanded for three days until tomorrow.
