PETALING JAYA:
An Indonesian woman was fined RM2,000 by the Parit magistrates’ court today after pleading guilty to negligence causing the death of her two-month-old baby last week.

Dewinta Tefa, 36, pleaded guilty before magistrate Nurul Izalina Rajaai to causing the death of her youngest son at their home in Kampung Sungai Dua, Kota Setia, on Sept 19, Utusan Malaysia reported.

She broke down in tears in the dock when shown photographs of her baby and the scene of the incident.

Deputy public prosecutor Wan Ameerul Nazhif Wan Zulfikri told the court that Tefa had no prior record but urged the court to impose a punishment reflecting the seriousness of her negligence.

However, defence lawyer Nurul Syuhada Yusof asked for the minimum fine, saying her client had six children, four of whom live in Indonesia.

Tefa and her husband, who earns RM1,500 a month as an oil palm plantation worker, have lived in Malaysia since 2022. She is a housewife.
