PETALING JAYA:
Authorities have cordoned off Jalan Burma in George Town, Penang, after part of the road collapsed near the junction with Transfer Road.

Executive councillor H’ng Mooi Lye said the sinkhole was caused by a burst sewage pipe. Indah Water Konsortium was carrying out repairs.

“Police and authorities have diverted traffic away from Jalan Burma from both directions from Jalan Penang,” he said, according to Berita Harian.

This has reportedly caused heavy traffic congestion in the city.

He said the Penang Island City Council will issue a statement soon.
