PETALING JAYA:
Newly crowned world mixed doubles badminton champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei got off to a flying start at the China Masters today with an easy victory over Chen Zhi Yi-Francesca Corbett of the US.

The world No 3 pair took just 30 minutes to beat the Americans 21-12, 21-14 to progress to the second round of the World Tour Super 750 series in Shenzhen.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei, who withdrew from last week’s Hong Kong Open after a hectic schedule following their victory at the World Championships in Paris, will meet Indonesia’s Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu who defeated Japanese pair Hiroki Midorikawa-Natsu Saito.

The Malaysians are still looking to win their first BWF World Tour title this season after winning the Korea Open last year as the World Championships are not part of the World Tour series.

Yesterday, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie won their opening round to progress to the last 16. Also through to the second round are men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani.

Malaysians will be featuring today in the opening rounds of the other events with the exception of the women’s singles category.
