
Speaking at the party’s 71st muktamar here, Takiyuddin said PAS had consistently been accepting 2,000 to 3,000 new members every month.
He also said PAS’s non-Muslim supporters wing was now the party’s official associate wing, giving it equal standing as its ulama, women’s and youth wings.
This means the party now has over 10,000 non-Muslim members through this wing.
“The Registrar of Societies approved the amendment to PAS’s constitution on Aug 8. Associate members must be Malaysian and of faiths other than Islam.
“All members of the non-Muslim supporters wing, who were previously deemed ‘friends of PAS’, have automatically been made PAS associate members,” he said.
PAS had approved the amendment to its constitution at last year’s muktamar, allowing its non-Muslim associate members to take part in the party elections starting from this year.
