PETALING JAYA: Myanmar police seized more than five tonnes of drugs bound for Malaysia in a series of raids, with proceeds from the trade intended to fund armed groups in the country.
A report by state-run Myanmar News Agency today said police seized 4.4 tonnes of methamphetamine, one tonne of ketamine, 14kg of heroin, and more than four million stimulant tablets in multiple operations in Yangon between Sept 5 and Sept 7.
At least a dozen suspects were arrested, with several trucks and cars also confiscated, the report said.
Among those arrested was a man who helped arrange a boat for the drugs to be transported to Malaysia.
