PETALING JAYA:
A company engaged in plastic scrap recycling activities here was fined RM65,000 by the Kuala Selangor sessions court yesterday for three environmental offences.

Selangor environment department director Wandi Yadzid Yaakob, in a statement today, said the factory manager pleaded guilty to the offences, Bernama reported.

Judge Nurul Mardhiah Redza ordered the manager to be jailed 26 months if the fine is not paid.

Wandi said a check was conducted, together with the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council, following public complaints about the factory operating on Jalan Bukit Badong in Kuala Selangor on March 13, 2023.

“Investigations found that the factory was conducting plastic scrap recycling activities.”

He said the factory had failed to provide written notification and was not equipped with an air pollution control system as required under the Environmental Quality (Clean Air) Regulations 2014.

Wandi said one charge was made under Section 34A(8) of the Environmental Quality Act 1974, and the other two charges under Regulation 29 of the Environmental Quality (Clean Air) Regulations 2014.

He advised companies to be more responsible and not to break environmental laws in their pursuit of profit.
