PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles shuttlers Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King cruised into the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open today after an easy win over compatriots Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri.
Arif-Roy King won 21-17, 21-19 in 39 minutes, in what was billed as a rematch of the Macau Open semi-final last month.
Arif-Roy King will meet Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty of India who defeated Thai pair Peeratchai Sukphun-Pakkapon Teeraratsakul in three games.
The world No 20 pair eliminated top Danish pair Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen in straight games in the opening round.
They won the Macau Open in August after defeating an Indonesian pair in the final.
They have been described as the fastest improving Malaysian doubles pair by the coaching team.
