Varsity staff accused of pilfering RM84,500 for wife’s court case

The man allegedly misused his position as a secretary for the varsity's academic staff association to misappropriate the funds.

PETALING JAYA:
The secretary of an academic staff association at a public varsity in Melaka has been arrested for allegedly misappropriating RM84,500 of the association’s funds to foot his wife’s costs for a court case.

A source said the man, 47, allegedly misused his position in the association to obtain the funds in order to pay for a court order against his wife, as well as her legal fees.

The suspect was arrested at around 5.10pm yesterday after giving his statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) headquarters in Melaka, Berita Harian reported.

The Ayer Keroh magistrates’ court allowed MACC to place the suspect under remand until Sept 7.

Melaka MACC chief Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrest.
