PETALING JAYA:
Mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei stormed into the semi-finals of the World Badminton Championships in Paris this afternoon.

Another Malaysian pair, Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin, failed to join them, however, after they lost to China’s world No 2 pair, Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei, ranked No 4 in the world, took only 37 minutes to defeat 17th ranked Indian pair Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto 21-15, 21-13.

In the semi-finals tomorrow, they will face the winners of the tie between China’s Cheng Xing-Zhang Chi and Delphine Delrue-Thom Gicquel from France.

Their performance at this World Championships has exceeded their showing in the last one in 2023, when they crashed out in the quarter-finals.

The pair will be hoping for a podium finish in Paris after failing to reach any final this year, falling at the semi-final stage in five tournaments.

Their last title was the Korea Open held in September 2024.

Pang Ron-Su Yin, ranked world No 16, gave Zhen Bang-Ya Xin a run for their money in the first game before losing 23-25, 15-21 in 40 minutes.

Yesterday, Pang Ron-Su Yin shocked their world No 6 compatriots, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai, in the last 16.
