PETALING JAYA:
Men’s doubles pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun were undaunted by the home crowd at the Adidas Arena in Paris as they swept aside French brothers Christo and Toma Junior Popov in the opening round of the World Championships.

The world No 7 Malaysian pair defeated the 19th-ranked French duo in a hard-fought three-game encounter with a score of 21-15, 13-21, 21-19 in a match that lasted 65 minutes.

The Malaysians have now beaten the French pair in all three of their encounters so far.

In the second round, Wei Chong-Kai Wun will take on the 14th-ranked Ben Lane-Sean Vendy from England, who defeated South Korean pair Kim Gi Jung-Kim Sa Rang.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun are competing in their second world meet after losing in the third round during their 2023 debut in Copenhagen.

They have won two BWF World Tour Super 500 titles this year: the Indonesia Masters in January and the Malaysia Masters in May.

All other top Malaysian pairs in the men’s, women’s and mixed doubles events will be playing their opening rounds today.

Men’s singles player Leong Jun Hao and women’s singles shuttler K Letshanaa won their openers yesterday to enter the second round.
