Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PN-Pengkalan Chepa) said he had received a “confidential document” that placed the spending at RM18 million, not including other costs.
“This is why I said the amount was around RM20 million. The minister said RM5.9 million. That is not right,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today after raising a point of order during the debate on the atomic energy licensing bill.
Religious affairs minister Na’im Mokhtar last week defended the rebranding, saying the appointment of a non-Muslim firm in the matter followed corporate norms and went through proper channels.
Marzuk also asked deputy speaker Ramli Nor about the rights of MPs to share classified documents in Parliament.
“If we receive a confidential tip that is true, how far can we go to share it in the House or outside? Will we be protected, or will we face legal action?” he asked.
Ramli responded by saying that any new information should be raised through a proper motion to the speaker’s office.
Marzuk was suspended from the Dewan Rakyat for two days last week after he refused to obey orders to stand down over a heated debate on the same issue.
