Its minister, Alexander Nanta Linggi, said no official proposal had been received, but the ministry was willing to study the need for this if it could help improve road safety.
“Our aim is to provide safe and comfortable road infrastructure, particularly in areas of significant economic activity,” he said during a question-and-answer session.
He was responding to a supplementary question from Dr Halimah Ali (PN-Kapar) on whether the ministry was open to studying a proposal to set up a special fund for maintaining industrial roads in strategic areas such as Kapar, Klang, a key contributor to the nation’s gross domestic product growth.
Nanta said the public works department always prioritised finding the best methods for road maintenance, including conducting research and development on durable materials capable of handling excessive loads.
He said the ministry was also willing to collaborate with local authorities, the housing and local government ministry, and other relevant agencies, which regularly hold meetings to coordinate road-related matters.
