Keith Strier, AMD’s senior vice-president for Global AI Markets, made this announcement during the Asean AI Malaysia Summit 2025, officiated by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim here today.
Unlike physical GPUs, cloud GPUs allow users to process large amounts of data and run complex calculations remotely. This is a key advantage for fields like artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Such access will help local developers train AI models faster and handle larger datasets more efficiently.
Strier described this as a first-of-its-kind partnership with Malaysia’s National AI Office, marking AMD’s first sovereign AI partnership.
“This world-class resource will accelerate local innovation, improve AI readiness and strengthen Malaysia’s leadership in AI,” he said.
Also at the summit, the Asean Foundation, supported by Google.org (the charitable arm of Google), launched the AI Ready Asean learning platform to boost AI skills across the region.
The platform will use a train-the-trainer approach to equip 800,000 community leaders, who will then help millions of people, including 400,000 Malaysians, gain essential AI knowledge.
