PETALING JAYA:
Payments for the third phase of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) cash aid scheme will begin tomorrow, with RM2 billion to be distributed to some 8.6 million Malaysians.

The finance ministry said the number of recipients was a 300,000 increase from the first phase in January, and that each would receive up to RM650 in this phase.

It said the increase in recipients was a result of the government opening up new applications and appeals throughout the year to ensure that aid could reach those who were eligible.

“This shows that the Madani government does not take lightly the trust we bear to improve the people’s well-being, so that no one is left out from enjoying our nation’s prosperity,” Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said in a statement.

Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said the STR had boosted the efforts of recipients to attain financial freedom, helping the government achieve its aspirations under the Madani economy framework.

Malaysians not listed in the STR database must submit an application for verification based on the criteria for eligibility.

Recipients can check their eligibility and access the FAQ section at the official STR portal.
