Policeman stabbed in stomach while patrolling in Pudu

A 56-year-old suspect, believed to have 14 prior criminal records, was detained.

A suspect was arrested not far from the location of the incident at Jalan Yew, Kuala Lumpur.

A police officer was stabbed in the stomach while conducting a check on a suspect at the Pudu market in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.

Berita Harian quoted a source as saying that the 56-year-old male suspect was arrested and is believed to have 14 prior criminal records.

The source said the incident occurred while the officer from the Pudu police station was patrolling the area.

“The suspect stabbed the victim using a knife and immediately fled the scene. However, he was arrested not far from the location of the incident.

“The injured police officer was rushed to Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz in Cheras,” said the source.

Police also seized the knife believed to have been used by the suspect.

In a statement, acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad said three transparent plastic packets containing substances suspected to be drugs were found on the man.

He said the case is being investigated under Sections 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder using a weapon, and Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties.
