Tow truck driver claims trial to blocking PLUS highway

Another man pleads not guilty to driving against the flow of traffic in the incident.

PETALING JAYA:
A tow truck operator has pleaded not guilty to blocking the entire North-South Expressway (PLUS) southbound near the Pedas-Linggi toll plaza in Negeri Sembilan on July 1.

R Suren, 36, was charged in the Kuala Pilah magistrates’ court with rash or negligent driving by stopping his vehicle in the middle of the highway, endangering other road users.

He is accused of committing the offence at 7.50pm at Km225.5 of the PLUS highway, Harian Metro reported.

The charge was framed under Section 279 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to six months in prison, a maximum RM2,000 fine, or both, if found guilty.

Suren and two others still at large were also charged with wrongful restraint of one Ang Wei Foong, 38, by blocking the car that Ang was driving at the same location and time.

The charge under Section 341 of the Penal Code is punishable by up to a month in prison, a maximum RM1,000 fine, or both, upon conviction.

Magistrate Yusna Khadijah Yusop allowed the accused to post bail of RM3,000 and fixed Sept 9 for case mention.

Separately, Ang was charged under Section 279 of the Penal Code with rash driving against the flow of traffic, endangering other road users.

He claimed trial and was allowed to post bail of RM2,000. His case was also fixed for case mention on Sept 9.
