Johor Bahru Utara police chief Balveer Singh said the suspect was arrested at his home at around 7.25pm on July 26, a few hours after the girl’s father lodged a police report.
“Checks revealed that the suspect has a criminal record of multiple offences, including those related to drugs.
“A urine test conducted on the suspect returned positive for methamphetamine,” Balveer said in a statement today.
He said the victim was taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital with a scalp laceration and swelling on her right hand. She is currently reported to be in stable condition.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using a dangerous weapon.
The incident came to light following the circulation of CCTV footage showing the child running into a lift with a bleeding head.
