PETALING JAYA:
Two immigration officers have been arrested for allegedly being involved in a practice known as “counter setting” to illegally allow foreigners into the country at the Penang International Airport.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said the pair were nabbed in a special operation probing alleged abuse of power and corruption involving immigration officers at the airport.

“The two immigration officers were arrested yesterday to assist in investigations.

“Further investigations are ongoing to determine the network and modus operandi (of the culprits),” the MACC’s Penang chapter said in a statement.

Counter setting typically involves selected individuals being allowed through immigration inspection counters without undergoing proper procedures.
