In a Bursa Malaysia announcement today, SunCon said the MACC investigation was an “isolated” probe that did not involve the manner in which it secures contracts from its clients.
“As the inquiry falls solely under the jurisdiction of MACC, SunCon has refrained and will continue to refrain from further comment, placing its trust in MACC to conduct an impartial investigation.
“SunCon has been and continues to be fully cooperative with MACC to facilitate a thorough investigation. SunCon is also currently seeking legal counsel to evaluate the appropriate actions to be taken on certain sub-contracts and parties,” it said.
The company maintained that the MACC probe has no financial or operational implications on the company, and that it remained committed to exercising the highest standards of integrity and transparency in its operations.
“We maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards bribery, corruption, and any practice that compromises ethical conduct,” it said. “The board of SunCon Group will continue to monitor developments closely and will make timely disclosures should any material updates arise.”
SunCon is a subsidiary of Sunway Bhd, which has a 54.55% stake in the construction company through Sunway Holdings Sdn Bhd.
The Edge reported last week that SunCon has been awarded three major projects this year, including a RM1.5 billion transit-oriented development project at Bukit Chagar in Johor.
The other two are a RM260 million contract for the final phase of a data centre development, and a RM1.16 billion contract for general contractor services for two data centre projects.
