Petaling Jaya police chief Shahrulnizam Jaafar says the officers involved have been reassigned to different duties pending the outcome of the investigation.

The five police officers accused of extorting a Taiwanese woman at a roadblock in SS2 here have been transferred to other departments pending the conclusion of the investigation.

Petaling Jaya police chief Shahrulnizam Jaafar said the five officers had been arrested, but the court rejected the remand application against them, Bernama reported.

“The case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion, and a disciplinary inquiry has also been initiated at the same time,” he said.

“For now, the officers involved have been reassigned to different duties pending the outcome of the investigation,” he added.

On Thursday, police said investigations had been launched into the woman’s claim after she related her ordeal in a Facebook post.
