World No 4 mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei stormed into the Japan Open semi-finals after a commanding win over home pair Yuichi Shimogami-Sayaka Hobara today.

The Malaysian pair took just 31 minutes to win 21-14, 21-12 at the Metropolitan Gymnasium in Tokyo, leading 15-0 at one point in the second game.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei will meet China’s world No 2 Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin, who dashed hopes of an all-Malaysian semi-final by defeating Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie in straight games.

The husband-and-wife team lost to the defending champions 13-21, 21-23 in a 37-minute match.

Winners in the doubles events will take home US$70,300 (RM298,775), while runners-up will receive US$33,250 (RM141,494).

Five other Malaysian pairs are also in action today in the men’s, women’s and mixed doubles.
