Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair, Pearly Tan-M Thinaah, advanced to the semi-finals of the Japan Open with a convincing victory in their quarter-final tie today.

The world No 3 pair took 54 minutes to defeat world No 69 pair Jeong Na Eun-Lee Yeon Woo in straight games, 21-15, 21-19, at the Metropolitan Gymnasium in Tokyo.

It was their third victory in a row against the South Korean pair.

Pearly-Thinaah will next face the winners of the match between South Korea’s world No 4 pair Baek Ha Na-Lee So Hee and China’s Jia Yi Fan-Zhang Shu Xian, ranked No 9 in the world.

The Malaysians are in pursuit of their second title of the year, having claimed the Thailand Open crown in May.

They are the second Malaysian pair to book a spot in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Earlier, mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei won their quarter-final match.

The winners in the doubles events will take home US$70,300 (RM298,775) while the runners-up will receive US$33,250 (RM141,494).
