PETALING JAYA:
Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has served a letter of demand on blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris, also known as Papagomo, over allegations that he had misused the agency’s funds.

In a Facebook post, Asyraf said the notice was delivered by his lawyers to Wan Azri’s residence at 2.15pm today.

He included in the post a photo of the acknowledgement copy of the letter, issued by law firm Shahrul Hamidi & Haziq, as well as another of Wan Azri reading the document.

“Enough with the toxic politics of hatred and cheap slander. It’s time we teach the meaning of accountability for one’s words and actions.

“Even if you’re unfazed by the consequences in this world, may there still be a shred of fear for the severe punishment of Allah for slander. See you in court!” Asyraf said in a caption in the post.

He, however, did not disclose the contents of the letter of demand. The paragraphs below the title of the letter in the post had also been blurred.

Last Sunday, Asyraf, who is also Umno’s secretary-general, said in a video he planned to sue Wan Azri for RM1 million over the alleged defamatory claims.

He also denied allegations that he had awarded Mara food supply tenders and project contracts to Umno division chiefs, or that he had used Mara funds for sacrificial slaughter in Gerik during the recent Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations.
