
Sepang police chief Norhizam Bahaman said he suspects – a man and a woman, aged 19 and 20 – would be charged at 9am.
He said the investigation papers were submitted to the Selangor deputy public prosecutors’ office earlier today.
“Following the instruction from the deputy public prosecutor, the male suspect will be charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code (with murder), and the female suspect will be charged under Sections 109/302 of the same law which refers to abetting the offence,” he said in a statement.
Norhizam said the duo were initially arrested along with two other suspects – also a man and a woman – who had been released on bond. They will serve as prosecution witnesses.
University of Cyberjaya student Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara was found dead in her condominium unit by a friend at about 10am on June 24.
She had been staying in the unit with five other students, but her housemates had reportedly returned to their hometowns for the holidays on June 21.
An autopsy identified her cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head. Police said there were no signs that her residence had been broken into, and that she had not suffered injuries consistent with rape.
Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan had said the main suspect used a key and access card provided by his girlfriend, who had returned to her hometown, to enter the apartment.
He said the suspect took advantage of the victim being alone in the apartment while waiting to sit her final paper.
After allegedly assaulting and killing her, the suspect, who is unemployed, is said to have robbed her, taking her mobile phone, laptop, and ATM card which he used to withdraw RM200.
