PETALING JAYA:
Several passengers and the driver of an express bus were injured after the vehicle hit a height restriction barrier in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, last night.

Police said the driver was using the Waze navigation app and was not aware of the barrier.

Nilai fire and rescue department operations commander Azmi Hamid said the injured comprised four men and three women in their 30s to 50s, Bernama reported.

He said the department received a distress call at 10.30pm.

“The bus, carrying 19 passengers, was believed to be travelling from Kajang, in Selangor, to Melaka,” he said.

Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said a preliminary investigation revealed that the 62-year-old driver was using the Waze navigation app.

“The driver was unaware of the height restriction barrier and crashed into it, causing damage to the front and top parts of the bus, which got stuck under the metal structure,” he said in a separate statement.

Naazron said four of the seven injured passengers were sent to Serdang Hospital, while the other three were taken to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital in Seremban.

The remaining uninjured passengers were picked up by family members who went to the scene.
