Serdang police chief Farid Ahmad said a 52-year-old man and a 33-year-old foreign woman were arrested in the 1pm raid.
He said an investigation found that the syndicate had mixed tobacco with methamphetamine oil to produce what they called “meth cigarettes”, sold for RM80 each to distributors around the Klang Valley.
“This is the first successful operation to dismantle a syndicate processing and selling drug-laced cigarettes,” Bernama reported him as saying at the Serdang police headquarters.
Farid said police also seized a box containing 10.07kg of dried tobacco leaves, suspected to be mixed with methamphetamine, along with two boxes containing 120 sticks of meth cigarettes.
Police also seized another five boxes, each containing 120 sticks of cigarettes, along with two plastic packets containing 0.61kg of methamphetamine.
“Our initial investigation found that the syndicate was selling drug-laced cigarettes in boxes of 120 sticks, each priced at RM80, making one box worth RM9,600.
“Distributors then resold them individually to users at higher prices, estimated between RM120 and RM150 per stick, for use at entertainment outlets in the Klang Valley,” Farid said.
He said the male suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, and had a record for five criminal and drug-related offences.
The woman tested negative for drugs and had no criminal record.
He said the couple sourced their materials from local suppliers, and the house was used for drug processing and packaging.
Police were also trying to establish if other parties were involved in the network.
