Amira said this was because Syed Saddiq had cleared his name in court and had consistently defended Muda’s name throughout his ongoing tenure as Muar MP.
She said this was decided by Muda’s central executive committee at a meeting last night.
She added that Syed Saddiq would be given time to consider the offer.
“The central committee’s view is that with Syed Saddiq’s return to leadership, he can strengthen the party, especially in gaining support ahead of the next general election.
“At the same time, the committee respects Syed Saddiq’s need to consider the offer and has agreed to give him as much space as possible to make a decision.
“I would also like to point out that Syed Saddiq has continued to serve as an MP in the Dewan Rakyat and in Muar full-time. He has never been lacklustre in serving the people. There has been no change in that area,” she said in a statement.
Yesterday, Muda said it would discuss Syed Saddiq’s position in the party after the Muar MP was acquitted of his corruption and money laundering charges.
Syed Saddiq was convicted by the Kuala Lumpur High Court in November 2023 of abetting in criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of assets, and money laundering.
He later announced that he would temporarily step down as Muda president, and would not be involved in the party’s decision-making processes. Amira took over in the interim.
