PETALING JAYA:
A man, married for only six months, has pleaded not guilty to injuring his wife with a chair out of jealousy.

Hamirullah Hadi Hamidi, 28, entered the plea after the charge was read to him before magistrate Suzana Mokhtar in the Muar magistrates’ court, Harian Metro reported.

The burger vendor is accused of voluntarily causing hurt to his 28-year-old wife with a vanity chair at a house in Taman Damai, Sungai Abong, at 8.30am on June 20.

He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, or a fine, or whipping, or any combination of the three, upon conviction.

Hamirullah allegedly beat his wife on the face, body and legs because he was jealous of her job at a cafe.

Deputy public prosecutor Yasmin Piah prosecuted, while Hamirullah was represented by Fatimah Zahrah Azmi from the National Legal Aid Foundation.

The court granted Hamirullah bail of RM3,500 on the condition that he reports to the nearest police station every week, and refrains from contacting the prosecution’s witnesses, particularly the victim, pending the disposal of the case.

It fixed July 17 for submission of documents and appointment of counsel.
