Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad said all five have been released on bail after they provided their statements, Berita Harian reported.

Earlier reports said the trio, aged between 30 and 50, were eating with several friends when they were approached by two men on a motorcycle who fired several shots at them.

Usuf said the arrests were made in Kuala Lumpur on June 16.

He also said no arrests have been made in the incident in Cheras on June 17 in which two men died after being shot several times in front of a shopping mall, but police were actively working to identify the gunmen.

Investigations showed that both cases are believed to be related to feuds between secret societies, he said.

Usuf said 18 witnesses had given their statements in relation to the Brickfields case, while 20 had their statements recorded in the Cheras shooting probe.
