They marched to the embassy from Masjid Tabung Haji after Friday prayers, waving Palestinian flags and holding placards that read “Free Palestine”, “Long live the Islamic Republic of Iran” and “Iran stands with Palestine”.
Among those present were Amanah communications director Khalid Samad, Pulai MP Suhaizan Kayat, veteran activist Tian Chua, NGO Mandiri coordinator Wong KuKui and Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (Mapim) president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid.
Azmi told the crowd the protest reflected Malaysia’s broader moral position on global injustice.
“This protest is not just a show of support for Palestine or Iran. It’s about the Malaysian people standing up against oppression and war crimes, and rejecting the US’s role in legitimising such actions,” he said.
Khalid was disappointed that no representative from the embassy came out to receive the group’s memorandum.
“We had to drop the memorandum into their mailbox,” he said.
Speaking to reporters, Tian Chua described the embassy’s silence as an example of arrogant disregard for the voice of the people.
“They continue to ignore us. But we will keep protesting as long as the threat of war grows. We will firmly maintain our stance, we reject war,” he said.
