According to Harian Metro, no plea was recorded during the closed-door proceedings before magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani, as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Farah Nabihah Sofian while the accused was represented by lawyers Cassian Anthony, Francis Augustine Sosay, and E Lee Thian.
The first and second charges saw the 17-year-old accused of murdering his 51-year-old mother and 21-year-old brother at their home in Bukit Rambai, Melaka, between 5am and 5.30am on June 12.
The charges were framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
The third charge, under Section 326 of the Penal Code, saw the teen accused of voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a folding knife to his 13-year-old brother, at the same time, date, and location.
The court fixed July 24 for the next mention of the case, after the prosecution requested more time to obtain the victims’ DNA analysis and post-mortem reports.
Outside the courtroom, Anthony told reporters the court had been informed that the accused was believed to be suffering from mental health issues.
“However, we will review the matter before submitting any formal request for him to be referred to a specialist at Hospital Bahagia at the next mention date,” he said.
No family members of the accused attended the proceedings.
