PETALING JAYA:
A woman was killed and her son injured after their motorcycle collided with a car door that was suddenly opened near the traffic light junction at Batu 5, Jalan Ipoh, yesterday.

In a statement, Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement department chief Zamzuri Isa said the impact of the collision caused the 20-year-old motorcyclist to fall onto the road, while his mother, who was riding pillion, was thrown under a lorry in the right lane.

The 55-year-old woman died while receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Her son sustained minor injuries to his legs and hands.

Zamzuri said initial investigations revealed that the accident occurred at around 12.20pm when the motorcyclist and his mother were travelling from Jalan Ipoh towards the Kepong roundabout.

As they reached the location, the 35-year-old driver of a Toyota Vios, who had parked on the left side of the road, suddenly opened his car door.

The motorcyclist was unable to avoid the open door and crashed into it. His mother was subsequently thrown under the passing lorry in the adjacent lane. The lorry driver was uninjured.

Zamzuri said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
