
The ministry said the action was taken under the Tourism Industry Act 1992 after receiving a report on the tragedy.
“The ministry will work with the police, the Land Public Transport Agency and the road transport department to complete the investigation in accordance with the provisions of the law so that appropriate punishment is imposed, and the victims’ families receive the appropriate protection,” it said in a statement today.
It said further action will be taken once the investigation is concluded.
The ministry’s officials have also visited the families of the victims and those of the injured, it said, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring tourism-related activities are conducted safely, ethically, and responsibly.
In the incident on June 9, a chartered bus carrying UPSI students from Jertih, Terengganu, to the main campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak, overturned after being involved in a collision with a car.
Thirty-three people, including the bus driver and attendant, as well as the driver and three passengers of the car were injured.
