PETALING JAYA:
A Singaporean was fined RM9,100 by the Johor Bahru magistrates’ court today after he pleaded guilty to damaging a vehicle and spitting on a man’s face in a road rage incident in Skudai that went viral.

Cheng Kuan Poh, 40, pleaded guilty to two offences after the charges were read to him in Mandarin before magistrate A Shaarmini. He was also ordered to serve a 12-month jail term if he fails to pay the fine, Kosmo reported.

In the first charge, he was accused of intentionally causing harm and destruction of property by damaging Ng Yeow Meng’s car last Saturday. In the second charge, Cheng was accused of insulting the victim’s modesty by spitting on his face with the intention of provoking Ng.

Both offences occurred at Jalan Sutera Tanjung 8/4, Taman Sutera Utama, Skudai, Johor, at 2.39pm on June 7.

The accused’s lawyer, Norfarahin Yazid, told the court that her client was a first-time offender.

She said Cheng, who is supporting two elderly parents, worked as a human resources manager and earned S$2,000 a month.

Johor Bahru Utara police chief MS Balveer Singh previously said Cheng was arrested for kicking a BMW car. The incident occurred following a verbal altercation between Cheng and Ng, who subsequently filed a police report.

A video of the incident showed the pair in a shouting match, with Cheng kicking the front of Ng’s vehicle.
