PETALING JAYA:
A 34-year-old lorry driver died after an accident involving three heavy vehicles on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) near Yong Peng, Batu Pahat, in Johor this morning.

The three vehicles were an eight-tonne lorry, a tanker lorry and a trailer lorry, The Star reported.

“Following the impact, the driver of the trailer lorry was injured and remained trapped in the vehicle,” Yong Peng fire and rescue department operations commander Hafiz Othman was quoted as saying.

He said the rescue teams deployed specialised equipment to extricate the injured victim but the driver was later pronounced dead by an officer from the health ministry.

According to Hafiz, the other two drivers, aged 37 and 42, did not suffer any injuries.

The incident comes just days after 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students died in a horrific crash in Gerik, Perak, involving a chartered bus.

According to police, the bus overturned after it hit a Perodua Alza. The crash also left 33 people injured, including the bus driver, his attendant and the four passengers in the Alza.
