
More than 200 people were killed when the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft bound for London with 242 people on board, including 12 crew members, crashed minutes after taking off from the city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat state.
AirAsia Malaysia operates five flights per week from Kuala Lumpur to Ahmedabad while Malaysia Airlines has eight weekly flights serving the same route.
“AirAsia continues to operate flights from/to Ahmedabad,” AirAsia told Bernama when asked about any changes to its flight schedule to Ahmedabad.
Similarly, Malaysia Airlines said its flights to Ahmedabad are not affected, Bernama reported.
The Air India flight AI171 had 169 Indian nationals, 53 British, one Canadian and seven Portuguese citizens on board.
The flight crashed into the hostel building of BJ Medical College, which reportedly led to the deaths of five medical students and injuries to dozens of others.
Tata Group, which owns Air India, said it will give 1 crore rupees – around RM490,000 – to the families of each person killed in the crash.
It will also cover the medical expenses of those injured and provide support to rebuild the medical hostel that was hit.
“No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment,” it said in a statement on X.
