IPOH:
Twenty-eight passengers and the driver of an express bus had a narrow escape last night after their vehicle caught fire following an accident at KM406 (northbound) of the North-South Expressway near Kamunting.

The fire is believed to have started when the bus struck and dragged a motorcycle that had skidded.

The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries while the passengers and driver were unharmed.

Perak fire and rescue department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call at 9.50pm and sent teams from the Kamunting and Taiping fire stations.

“The bus was about 90% destroyed. Fortunately, all 28 passengers were safely evacuated before firefighters arrived,” he said in a statement.
