Its minister Fahmi Fadzil said these measures were important to protect children from becoming victims of online sexual predators.
He also expressed concern over a case where a social media influencer allegedly sent lewd pictures to a teenage girl.
“I am concerned with what happened recently, where an influencer had contacted a 14-year-old and sent her obscene messages. This is something that is happening in our society.
“I am worried because children may not know and do not understand how to safely use social media. They look up to influencers but it seems that some of these influencers are allegedly taking advantage of them,” he said after the ministry’s monthly gathering here today.
It was previously reported that police were carrying out further investigations regarding the case involving the social media influencer who allegedly sent obscene messages to several individuals, including minors.
The influencer was remanded for four days by the police to assist in investigations after he surrendered himself.
Meanwhile, Fahmi urged ministry staff to deactivate their children’s social media accounts if they were under 13, and to monitor their use of the WhatsApp application to prevent any untoward incidents.
