Tan Kok Ho, 43, and Denise Tan, 47, pleaded not guilty when their case was called up before magistrate Atiqah Mohamed @ Mohamad Saim to a charge of using a forged document titled “Saman Hadir” (summons to appear) which allegedly resembled an official notice issued by the police.
The alleged offence is said to have taken place at Basement 2 of Pavilion Bukit Bintang’s parking lot on May 11.
The accused were also charged in a separate court before magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan with committing a similar offence at the parking lot of the National Stadium at Bukit Jalil on May 10.
In both cases, they were charged under Section 471 of the Penal Code and face punishment under Section 465, read together with Section 34 of the same code.
They are liable to a jail term which may extend to two years, a fine, or both, if convicted of each of the offences.
Deputy public prosecutors Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal and Syafika Azwa Fikri appeared for the prosecution.
The accused were represented by lawyers Phang Soon Mun and Darren Ee.
The defence lawyers requested that the court fix a low bail sum, saying the accused were the sole breadwinners in their respective families and had their children and elderly parents to care for.
Illi Marisqa granted bail of RM2,500 each, while Atiqah set bail at RM3,500 each, both with one surety.
Both courts fixed July 2 for case mention for the submission of documents.
